What Wet That Line does

The app is in development for iPhone and Android. Here is what it does today, and exactly which parts are free.

Free, always: the map, every spot, all government data, the conditions score and its reasons, and the catch log. These never go behind a paywall.

Spot map

Public fishing access in Montana and Alabama on one map: FWP fishing access sites and community ponds, ADCNR boat ramps and public fishing lakes. Pins are colored by water type (pond, lake, river, stream) and show the species reported there. Use it without an account.

Conditions score, with the reasons

Every spot gets a 0–10 score that updates hourly. It comes from the nearest USGS stream gauge (flow, how fast it’s changing, water temperature and clarity where measured), National Weather Service and Open-Meteo weather (air temperature, pressure trend, cold fronts, wind, cloud cover) and the solunar period. The app lists each factor, so you can judge it for yourself. Try it on the web map.

Catch log

Start a session at a spot and log what you catch. Each catch saves a snapshot of the conditions at that moment, so over time you see what actually worked on your water. Logging is free and unlimited.

Fish ID and Spot Sight (AI)

Fish ID suggests the species from a photo. Spot Sight analyzes a photo of the water surface for clarity, glare and visible fish. Honest note: a phone camera cannot see through surface glare; physics needs a polarizing filter for that. Spot Sight makes the most of what the camera captures, and a cheap clip-on polarizer makes it much better.

AI costs us money every time it runs, so free accounts get 5 photo analyses and 3 chat questions each month. Unlimited use is part of the optional subscription.

Ask about conditions

Ask a question in plain language (“what should I throw at this lake tomorrow morning?”) and get an answer that uses the spot’s current conditions.

Offline maps

Download map regions to use where there is no signal. Free accounts can keep 3 regions (up to 500 MB).
